How to make the Blocks Info page.

The Blocks intro page was made with a combination of Carousel and Blocks. The top header graphics, buttons and text are arranged in Blocks. The bottom dynamic area and buttons are configured in Carousel. This How-To document will step you through how to set up the page layout and Carousel style. You'll need to supply your own content and your own theme. If you like you can steal the content by copying it right off my page (I really don't mind at all) and for the theme choose something at least 700px wide and turn of the sidebar. OK, let's get started.

Step 1 -- Download some files

I've saved a Carousel Style and a Blocks Library page of the things we'll be doing. You'll still have to do some work, but this will give you a head start. Just click the icon on the right to download the zip file. Decompress it by double clicking. And place the two files it contains into ~/Library/Application Support/RapidWeaver

Step 2 -- Create a Blocks page
If you're not yet familiar with how to do this, visit the RapidWeaver manual or the Blocks Quickstart Guide.

Step 3 -- Open the Blocks Library

Open the library and click on the Page tab. If all went well with the download above you should see the Blocks Carousel item in your library.

Step 4 -- Use the Library Block
Drag the Blocks Carousel library item to your Blocks layout. This will create all the blocks on the page. Their will be a giant gray Page Block in the bottom of the layout -- you'll need to create a Carousel page for this to use. That's next.

Setp 5 -- Create a Carousel page
If you're not yet familiar with how to do this, visit the RapidWeaver manual or the Carousel Quickstart Guide.

Step 6 -- Open the Carousel Info window

Click the Info button in the lower right-hand corner of the window. This will bring up the Carousel Info window and open it to the "Styles" section.

Step 7 -- Choose the Blocks Carousel style
Scroll through the list until you find the style named "Blocks Carousel". Click on it. The preview will look quite blank -- that's because this is a pretty spartan style -- but that's what we're going for, so it's OK. Click Apply to set the style. Then close the Carousel Info window.

Step 8 -- Add some content.
If you like you can drag and drop images and text right out of my website, but you'll probably want to add your own accordion images. This style will really look best with exactly 6 items. That way no carousel scrolling is needed at all. Everything is visible all the time. Nice.

Step 9 -- Set the Page Block
With your Carousel complete jump back to the Blocks page. Double-Click on the Page Block (the big gray rectangle in the bottom of the screen). This will bring up the Blocks Inspector. Select your Carousel page from the popup menu. This will make the page block incorporate the contents of the Carousel page onto your Blocks page.

Step 10 -- Preview and Publish

You're all done. Preview your work to make sure you like it, then publish.
